Wet Sock [April Daily Poem – Day 7]

Prompt: Rafty

Every week the same old shock

Finding that surprisingly still-damp sock

It’s been in the dryer for nearly an hour

But this sock feels fresh from the shower

Even worse, it sows seeds of doubt

Have other clothes gone a similar route?

Hiding themselves from the burning heat

Opting to stay wet as a little treat

I’m acting like a detective as I sort

Taking socks to moisture court

“Are you dirty, are you wet?!”

I scream at a sock with an air of threat.

But the sock looks suspicious to me

So I don’t even wait for its not-guilty plea

Back into the hamper, the soggy sock goes

Once again, with the dirty clothes
