Rural Bus Stops [April Daily Poetry – Day 4]

Prompt: Quadrivium

At the crossroads stood the devil
He was waiting for a bus
In hate and evil, he could revel
But couldn’t leave Missouri without fuss

He looked me right in the eye
Asked if I had a ticket in my hand
Before he gave a world-weary sigh
He told me this isn’t what he planned

“Even I have off days,” he told me with a smirk
As he gazed deeply into the sky
He whispered: “Even if you love it, it still feels like work”
“You do it too well, and you’re the bad guy”

When the bus rolled up seven hours late
He reached into his pockets and started to grin
He waved me off but continued to wait
Looking like he just achieved a win

As the bus pulled away, I watched him fade
I realized there was so much to discuss
Part of me wishes I had stayed
But then he whispered: “No one escapes a bus”
