Is This A Local Thing? [Horror Short]

Posted to /r/Vancouver November 1st, 2022

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I wasn’t sure where else to ask. I only moved to Vancouver a few months ago, so this is my first Halloween here. It’s been a weird night. I’m wondering if this is some local tradition I’m unfamiliar with.

My building got a lot of trick-or-treaters tonight as I live near a load of apartment buildings. Most of them were normal, except one. So, at about 7 pm, this kid in a skull mask turns up. Or at least I presume it’s a kid, as they’re pretty short. They don’t say anything, but I give them candy anyway. They’re likely shy, you know?

Then, at 8, they turn up again, this time in a slightly different mask. I give them candy again because, hey, I respect the hustle. But then, at 9, the kid came back. But I didn’t say anything. Because, hey, the kid must really need the candy. Right?

But an hour later, they’re knocking on my door again. So I give them all the candy I have left, presuming it will make them leave me alone. But they didn’t. Top of the next hour, they’re knocking on my door again. I tried to ignore them, but they didn’t stop for at least twenty minutes, but eventually, the knocking stopped, and they left. I hoped they got the message, but at the top of the next hour, they were back again.

I’ve tried to ignore them, but they come back every hour. Each time, knocking for longer and longer. It’s been all night, and now they’re standing outside my door, knocking non-stop. It’s been at least two hours, but they haven’t stopped. Not even for a second.

But now he’s moving around. I swear, wherever I go, I hear them knocking on the doors, the windows, and even the walls. I don’t understand how he can move so quickly.

So is this some weird local thing? And if it is, please tell me how to get rid of him. Please.
