Kevin: The Undercover Sparrow [30 Days Of Poetry – Day 30]

Prompt: Unknown

Scientists think they know of every bird
That every single species has a fancy word
But little do they know, the surprising truth
A bird that’s eluded even the most dedicated sleuth

Kevin, the undercover sparrow
As the list of species narrow
He’ll always find a way to avoid detection
He won’t join your collection

He once posed as a lawyer
And sued a man’s employer
Because they tried to take his photograph
And then he flew away with a hearty laugh

He’s a master of disguise
You get close, and away he flies
By the night, he’ll have a new identity
While the researcher screams obscenity

He’s the sneakiest sparrow you’ve ever seen
He’ll do whatever it takes to keep his record clean
He lives on a beach under the tropical sun
The coolest bird who is on the run

So when you venture anywhere
Remember that he may be hiding there
Disguised as a waiter, politician, or priest
The world’s only unrecorded beast
