Terrible Tourism Choices Made While Hiking [30 Days Of Poetry – Day 29]

Prompt: Far

We heard of a cabin hidden in the trees
One where Twain flexed his expertise
So we tracked deep into the backwoods
Hoping we could find these historical goods

We walked for a while, biding our time
As the hills slowly started to climb
Looping through the many trees
Enjoying the feeling of the summer breeze

After a while, we found a clearing
But the result didn’t leave us cheering
As rather than a relic preserved for all time
We found rotting wood and loads of grime

Turns out it wasn’t from that far back
And was basically a super-disgusting shack
And the sign declared it wasn’t where Twain went
It was just a random guess they decided to invent

So if someone offers you a destination off the beaten track
Make sure you research before you reach its plaque
As to your doubtless agitation
You may just find a terrible, fake recreation
